Arlington Park Chess Camp
Join us every Monday evening at the Arlington Park Recreation Center for an engaging youth chess program designed specifically for children of all skill levels, especially beginners.
Each weekly session is one hour long and is divided into two interactive sections:
Lesson & Instruction (30 Minutes)
Students will learn:
Chess piece movement and rules
Opening principles and strategy
Checkmates and tactical patterns
Chess etiquette and sportsmanship
Important concepts through simplified master game examples
Instructors will break down famous chess ideas and positions into easy-to-understand lessons that help students improve while keeping learning fun and interactive.
Guided Open Play (30 Minutes)
After the lesson, students will apply what they learned through supervised games against other campers. Coaches will provide assistance, answer questions, and help students improve during play.
This structure helps children learn both the theory and practical side of chess while making new friends and building confidence over the course of the program.

Participants are encouraged to attend all 8 sessions to receive the full educational benefit of the program. Each lesson builds upon previous concepts, and regular attendance helps students improve more consistently. Behavior Expectations
Our goal is to create a fun, welcoming, and respectful learning environment for all students. Participants are expected to:
Treat instructors and fellow students respectfully
Demonstrate good sportsmanship during games
Follow classroom instructions
Avoid disruptive behavior during lessons and play
Minor behavioral issues will first be addressed with gentle reminders and encouragement. Continued disruptive behavior may result in a parent discussion or, in rare cases, removal from the program without refund.
Parent Pickup Policy
Parents and guardians are encouraged to pick up students promptly at the conclusion of each session at 6:30 PM. However, we understand that occasional delays can happen due to traffic, work, or unforeseen circumstances. A reasonable grace period will always be given, and communication is appreciated if running late.
For student safety, children will only be released to approved parents, guardians, or authorized pickup individuals listed on the registration form.
